male and female gaze

Male Gaze - The male gaze is how men look at women, how women look at themselves and how women look at other women. Audience views characters from the perspective of a heterosexual male. The male gaze denies women of their human identity and objectifies them. The gaze focuses on women's physical appearance, concluding in women objectifying other women in from the mind of a man.

Female Gaze- According to Laura Mulvey who created these gazes, she says that there is no such thing as a female gaze, or it isn't the same as the male gaze. Females expect to see strength and power. Also, the gaze of men from a women's perspective is that males are rarely dominated by women and are heroic so can save themselves. needing no assistance. Males are seen as practical, seductive and carefree.

I agree with some aspects of the gender gaze as some many of the features appear in our lives, most the time we see it and don't even realise. The gaze can be sexist and put a lot of pressure on women as it can portray a certain look of how women are supposed to look for men. The gaze can been seen a lot in magazines and advertisement. If a product is being advertised by a pretty woman people are more likely to buy it as they start to believe they will be seen like that, and the same for men.
